Chella

Chella is a graduate of Bail State University with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education.  She moved to California in 1956 and taught art at various levels for the past forty years.  She is a past president of the Modesto Art Center and Gallery.  She has painted extensively, exhibiting her work in many regional and national shows.  Chella’s work has been widely recognized by the many awards she has received.  Her works are in many private collections across the country.  She lives and works in Modesto.

As she searches for painting subjects, she sees the evidence of urban growth destroying the natural and rural scenes in the Great Central Valley of California.  Chella’s deep concern to capture these views of the past is revealed in the small plein air studies she does on site.  She strives to record these sensations with spontaneous brush strokes, expressing on canvas, the light and shadows of the landscape
