Terry Muira

Born in 1964 in Japan, Terry graduated from the Art Center of Design in Pasadena with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1990. He then moved to New York City and worked as a freelance illustrator, creating imagery for such clients as Time, Newsweek, and Random house. While there, he began painting New York City and started his career as a painter, showing wherever he could. He had his first solo show in New York City in 1995. He returned to the West Coast in 1996, and continued to paint and show New York-inspired cityscapes which were well received. His change of scenery crept into his paintings and his work began to change.

In 2001 his family moved to Fair Oaks, California, where he was immersed in the diverse landscape of Northern California. The mountains and hills of the Sierras, the rivers and valleys all around him led him to paint the landscape which has opened a whole new world of creative endeavors. He likes to explore the relationship between memories and emotions. Driving through the Central Valley he is inspired by the passing landscape. He searches for those undefined elusive memories, portals to something within, deeply personal and at the same time, universal.
