New Baskets From World Wide Baskets!

Posted by: Skooglund

These incredible world class baskets are hand woven by one of two indigenous tribes from the remote Darien Rainforest Region of Panama, the Wounaan. These baskets are made from the new leaves that appear each year at the top of the Chunga palm. The leaves are stripped down to five threads and woven over strips of the Nahuala plant. The dyes are natural, gleaned from tubers and plants. These fine baskets can feature 50 - 70+ stitches per inch. A basket 10" tall can take a year to make. Native American Baskets usually feature about 25-30 stitches be inch. These baskets are catching the attention of collectors around the world.

We now have a eBay store where you can find art and other items for sale that might not be on our web site. Check us out by clicking on stores and then entering "First Street Gallery" in the search for store block and clicking the circle by store name. We have 180 items listed.

Also, as part of networking and being eco-friendly, we have joined the ranks of MySpace and Facebook. Look us up and become our friends and fans to find out other bits of news, events and happenings. You'll find us as "First Street Gallery" on MySpace and "First Street Gallery & Frame Company" on Facebook.
