Nita Gunnarson
Nita graduated from California State University, Stanislaus with her Bachelor’s in studio art. She also studied with renowned watercolorist Dan Petersen, an instructor from Modesto Junior College. A fixture on the local art scene, she has won many awards in shows around the state. She now is a sought after as a judge and jurist for shows as well as an instructor and demonstrator for aspiring artists. Nita currently lives in Turlock with her husband, where she also maintains her studio. ÂHer early influences in watercolorists Jade Fon, Millard Sheets, Frank Webb, and Robert E. Wood has sustained her first love of watercolor. Nita’s work is filled with intense color and daring use of composition. She is known for paintings of flowers and fruits from her own prized garden. Nita’s work is in numerous private and corporate collections across the country
